Bombay Halwa (Karachi Halwa)

Ingredients:


  • Corn flour - 1/2 cup
  • Sugar - 1 1/2 cups
  • Water - 1 1/2 cups + 1/2 cup for syrup
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Nuts - 1/4 cups (finely chopped Pista, Almond and cashew nut )
  • Cardamom powder – little
  • Food colour – one drop red colour

Preparation


  1. In a large bowl, mix corn flour with water and whisk well. Add food color and keep aside.
  2. In a pan, dry roast the chopped cashews and keep aside to cool.
  3. In a pan, heat 1/2 cup of water and add sugar and boil till the sugar melts. Cook for another few minutes till the water starts getting a little thick.
  4. Now start adding the corn flour mixture by stirring continuously in low heat. You will see the mixture turning dark in color and the texture will be looking glossy.
  5. Keep stirring till the mixture starts getting thick. Now add 2 tbsp. of ghee and roasted cashews.
  6. When the mixture folds up and starts leaving the sides of the pan, transfer it into a greased tray and tap gently so that the mix spreads evenly. Keep aside to cool down completely.
  7. Once the halwa cools down completely cut it into desired shapes.  
  8. Garnished by chopped cashew nuts, almond and pistachios.
  9. Yummy Yummy halwa is ready to eat.
