Malabar Fish Curry (Fish Aanam)

INGREDIENTS:
250gm. king
fish
5tbsp. coconut oil
¼ tsp.fenugreek powder
2 strings curry leaves
5 shallots
chopped
1 large
onion chopped
1tsp. ginger
garlic paste
2 green
chillies (slit)
1 tomato chopped
11tbsp.
kashmiri chilli powder
1 tbsp.
coriander powder
¼ tsp.
turmeric powder
2 tbs.
tamarind pulp
For the
paste:
1 cup
grated coconut
2 shallots chopped
1 string curry leaves
½ tsp.
fennel seed powder
1 tsp.
coconut oil
Roast the
above ingredients, grind well. Add sufficient water, and grind to a smooth
paste.
Preparation:
Heat oil in
a mud pot, fry the chopped shallots, curry leaves, chopped onion and sauté till
the onion turns light brown in colour. Add green chillies, ginger garlic paste,
and sauté for two minutes. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder,
salt, chopped tomato and sauté well. Next add tamarind pulp and enough water. Bring
to a boil in full flame for 4-5 minutes. Reduce the heat, add the fish and cook
on a slow fire. Add the ground paste,cook till oil clears on top. Serve with
rice or roti.
